Arkansas Attorneys Help You Navigate the Social Security Disability Process

Bryant firm makes sure your SSD application is right the first time

At Skelton & Stevens Legal Group, PLLC in Bryant, Arkansas, we know that if you’re unable to work due to an impairment or debilitating illness, the last thing you need is to deal with the bureaucracy and paperwork involved in seeking Social Security Disability Insurance benefits, or veterans benefits. It can be difficult, time-consuming and slow to get the benefits you’re entitled to. Just over one-third of SSDI applications are approved, and applicants may wait more than a year between filing the application and receiving the first benefit check. If you want to make the strongest case for timely benefits, we can help, and we don’t get paid until you do.

Filing a Social Security disability benefits claim

SSDI is meant to compensate people who are no longer able to work because of a disability. The amount paid depends on your average earnings over your career before becoming disabled, and your benefits may be reduced by the amount of disability payments you receive from other sources. Although your SSDI award is not based on the severity of your disability, building a winning case requires persuasive medical evidence and effective presentation at the earliest stages. We help applicants gather the necessary information and submit the strongest possible application.

Getting to yes with applications that have been denied

If your Social Security disability application has been denied, you don’t need to panic. Disability benefits are often denied initially. The first thing your attorney must do is file a request for reconsideration by claims examiners and medical consultants who had nothing to do with the denial. If reconsideration fails to change the result, the next step is to request a hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ) within 60 days. ALJs review the full evidence in the case and grant roughly half the SSDI appeals they hear. For those that they deny, you may be able to obtain review by the Social Security Administration’s Appeals Council, which checks for errors by the ALJ. If that fails, the final recourse is to bring a lawsuit in federal court. Our attorneys are knowledgeable and experienced at all levels of SSDI appeals, and we put our skill and dedication to work for you.
